{Genius@Play} Drake Talks Mixtapes | MTV
Vodpod videos no longer available.
Drizz Lightyear sat down with MTV (for what, like the fiftenth Monday in a row?) earlier on in the week and basically broke down what we already knew. Mixtapes have become more than just a generic way of staying musically revelvant. It can breed careers. (Or mega-careers like it did with So Far Gone.) The interesting thing about this particular interview is that its sum parts offer more pieces of discussion than it did at the top of the week.
Since then, Drake has dropped a new album track from Thank Me Later to an overwhelmingly negative response. While I think about 50% of y’all were dismissing it–just cause, it does shed light on the creative process that goes into mixtapes vs. the board room-like science that goes into making a studio album.
Labels need results more than ever so is it safe to say your favorite artists’ debut album may not be completely what they want? Where as you can tell some vets just mail their shit in, a lot of these rookies may have several hands in the cookie jar just to reconstruct one chip.
Hopefully that’s not what’s going on here.
