{Genius@Play} Finally insurance for you Iphone Users

One of our AT&T Ninjas just hit us up with some news that will excite those of you who have a chronic case of the dropsies and own an iPhone. AT&T will be launching a new insurance service starting June 6th, named MobileProtect, designed specifically for the Apple iPhone. The insurance plan, which will be run by Asurion, will carry a price tag of $13.99/month and will be available for purchase through Apple’s App Store. The charges will be billed to the credit card on file with Apple. The deductibles range from $99 for an 8GB 3G to $199 for a 32GB 3GS, which is pretty steep — but not quite as steep as $699 for a new 32 GB 3GS off-contract. You must enroll in the plan within 30-days of upgrading/purchasing a new iPhone. AT&T is launching this service as: “Lack of iPhone insurance is a leading source of iPhone related customer complaints.” What say you? Is this a winner? We think $168/year is a pretty steep price to pay to protect your iPiece. We’ve got an additional image for you after the break.

{Genius@Play}Steve Jobs: 450,000 iPads Sold, 3.5 Million Apps Downloaded

Steve Jobs has just taken the stage at Apple’s iPhone OS 4.0 press event. Before getting to the anticipated product announcements, Jobs took the opportunity to highlight the immediate success of the iPad, which launched on Saturday.

As of today, Apple has sold 450,000 iPads — 150,000 more than total sales on the first day. That’s a phenomenal figure on the hardware sales side, but Jobs wasted no time celebrating some the iPad’s software accomplishments as well.

Here are the stats that Jobs is touting:

– Since the iPad launch on Saturday there have been 600,000 iBooks downloaded

– Over one million apps were downloaded to iPads on day one

– A total of 3.5 million apps have been downloaded to iPads since launch

– There are now 3,500 iPad-specific apps available for download, with 185,000 total apps available across all devices

– Total app store downloads, across all platforms, have surpassed the 4 billion mark

{Genius@Play} iPad launch day: 300,000 iPads, 250,000 iBooks sold, 1,000,000 apps downloaded

Apple has just announced that they sold 300,000 iPads on launch day, including pre-orders delivered straight to the door, and sales made at Apple Retail Stores and partners like Best Buy. In addition, over 250,000 iBooks were bought and over 1,000,000 App Store apps were downloaded to iPads. Says Steve Jobs:

“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world—it’s going to be a game changer. iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”

Congratulations to Apple on the launch, and for successfully pushing the iPhone OS further than many thought possible. It will be interesting to watch what happens now, post-launch. We know one thing right now, however — we here at TiPb downloaded a truckload more apps than average, how about you?
